RE: 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500, Rear Axle Ratio and Mileage?

I have the same truck you are describing. My owners manual says that all 2500HD trucks for 2003 with the 6.0 have 4:10 gears. Mine had 49,500 miles when I bought it. With miles that low, if the price is right I'd jump on it. You should have no problems towing a 32ft. TT.

RE: Does anybody else use Presto logs???

Just last week at Walmart they had firelogs on sale for 10.00 for I believe 6 in a box. They are a little smaller than the average firelogs but I don't really care. I'm tired of getting lousy firewood from CG's that burn for a few minutes then burn out, with over half of the logs not even touched. I have used firelogs before and they burn well, but burn for a long time. With my recent purchase maybe I'll use one firelog, and maybe one or two of the junk logs I still have left over from previous camping trips.

RE: Good price on Eternabond?

Yea I'll say it's a good deal. I bought mine at a roofing supply company a few miles from my house. Would have bought online, but I thought why wait for it to be delivered, when I can go pick it up. Now I see why I should have waited.

RE: Detrot Lyins .....4 and OHHHHH !

What is a Lyin? If you say Detroit has a good football team you'd be "a Lyin" THAT'S the ticket !! Now come on guys ... most of you are way better fans of football than I .... WHAT is the problemO with the Lyins ? ... HOW would you fix it ? I'm sure someone will say to start by firing Matt Millen, but Lions were lousy long before that. That's why Barry left, cuz he was tired of being associated with 'lousy'. A stud QB for the long term would help too. (Nothing against Kitna - he's still better than the two they have in Chicago!) :o How about they just sell the team. They will never win a super bowl as long WC owns them. He only cares about the money they make off the fools that go to see them play. Even if he doesn't sell them maybe he'll move them to another city, then maybe we can get an expansion franchise, and have a winner much sooner than the 50 years of the same old baloney. But I doubt that will happen.

RE: slide outs

Went this morning to check TT for any kind of leakage. It was dry as a bone everywhere. With as much rain as we have gotten the past few days, I can now rest a little easyier knowing that the old seal was the problem. However like I said in a earlier post, everyone should consider looking at the condition of slide out seals once a year.

RE: slide outs

Seals are the key to leaks. We had leaks for a couple years from our slide, nothing major but still some leakage, open or closed. ... the whole slide out seal was one piece, which meant that the corners had to bend on each side. Started looking at other slides and found most were three separate pieces. Put new seal on so it now overlaps seals on the sides. Now it leaks no more. Larry, our 2009 trailer has a one piece top seal and leaks like there is no seal at all. We are home today because the leak was so bad. We had rivers comming accross the floor! I would really like to know how other trailers are constructed since most have said they have not leaks, while this barnd seems to have many customers that have some nasty leaks. What I mean by one piece is that the manufacturer takes one long piece of seal, starts at bottom of one side of the slidout, then moves up to the top where they cut it at an angle then kind of folds it, then goes along the top, then cuts again at angle for the other side, down to the bottom to finish. I've Looked at a lot of trailers at storage, and campgrounds to see how other slideout were constructed. None that I seen were made the same as mine. They were three separate pieces, one for left side, one for right side, then the top piece that overlaps the side pieces along the top. Talked to a sales rep at a dealer, he told me that there was a recall on trailers that were all one piece like mine. Funny how I didn't recieve any notice from Dutchmen. I had to redo mine myself. Yours is a 2009, although you don't mention what make, it still is under warranty. Take it back to the dealer and have them take care of it. As I type this, it is raining hard here, reminents of Ike is directly over us. Will be taking a trip to storage tomarrow to see if all is allright with ours. If I don't find anything, then for sure my seal job was a good fix.

RE: Slide Toppers, who makes the best ones

Carefree slideout awnings seem to be pretty popular. Noticed at CG's and storage, that quite a few people had Carefree. Planning on getting one for slideout next spring. And it will be by Carefree. A&E awnings seem popular also, but have heard of delamenating problems with those.

RE: slide outs

Seals are the key to leaks. We had leaks for a couple years from our slide, nothing major but still some leakage, open or closed. Finally I got up on a ladder to check out what was going on up there. What I found was the top seal had dropped about a half inch, which caused a gap when closed. To top that off the whole slide out seal was one piece, which meant that the corners had to bend on each side. Started looking at other slides and found most were three separate pieces. Now in a heavy rain it's starting to really leak open or closed. Stayed at a campground in northern Indiana, where there is quite a few RV surplus stores. Bought 25 feet of new seal. Cut the old seal where it turned at the top on both sides. Put new seal on so it now overlaps seals on the sides. Now it leaks no more. What I'm saying here is just inspect your slideout seals, like you would your roof. Purchase a can of seal conditioner, and spray them a couple times a year. Also make sure nothing gets caught in it when you retract it. One time we stopped for lunch after leaving a CG. When we came out I discovered a tree branch had gotten lodged on top, when we brought it in. Also you may want to check into campers with two entry doors. Like us if we ever need to stop for an emergency , we can access our bathroom thru our bedroom entry door, with the slide closed. After all this, would never have another camper without a slide out. So much more room. You will really appreciate that. Good luck. Larry

RE: Wall covering in TT

First off do not buy cheap paint from Wallmart. Ever hear of the term you get what you pay for? Well believe me been there done that. Bought some for living room for stick house,it took almost three days to completly dry. Then some spots bubbled and peeled off. As for border, I assume that is what you are talking about, this is what I did. Our TT did not come with any border, but found some at lowes that was on clearance, and a perfect match. First time used the self adhesive. Following spring it came down. Then bought some wallpaper glue, put it back up. Later on it came down again. Then I went to home depot and found some nice wood trim. Got some custom stain to match the cabinets, and stained trim. Then measured and cut into peices to go on top and bottom of border, using short panel nails. It came out real nice. Have it going around the living room kitchen area. Not sure how big your white spot is, maybe you can hide it with trim like I did. Or buy a couple qrts. of good paint, not walmart and cover it up that way, maybe with a sponge. What ever you do good luck.

RE: Indiana Campground near Ft. Wayne

Another vote for Jellystone CG at Barton Lake in Fremont. Very clean Park and very family friendly. Not sure if the pools will be open though, seems like alot of CG's start closing down pools in late September. But I'm sure they will keep the activities for kids going.

RE: Black streaks embedded in paint

My TT had bad black streaks, even running down my slideout. I mean it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Went to the dollar store and bought some Awesome in a spray bottle. Let me tell you this stuff will do the job. I sprayed it on full strength and then wiped it off with a paper towel, and after that gave it a good wash and it looks like new again. Also tell your friend if he goes to the dollar store to get some Awesome, make sure to get some Bathroom Cleaner for the awning. Spray it on and scrub with a brush, rinse it, and it will look like new again.

RE: emerald ash borer

I'll tell you what really pisses me off is when I buy campground wood that is not seasoned. Twice while we were on vacation I bought firewood at two different campgrounds, only to have it burn, then halfway thru just sizzle out. The second time the wood was suppose to be kiln dried, while it was burning you could see the moisture just oozing right out of it. Then you go back to the office to complain and they act stupid like they've never had a problem before. And it just wasn't me other campers were having problems also. Also the price of wood has gone up to $6.00. So after the last three years of problems I can tell you this much, I'm done buying campground wood.

RE: How/Where to Find a Used Truck?

I found the truck in my signature on autotrader.com. Everything that I have listed here was also listed in the add. It sat on the dealers lot for a couple weeks before I decided to go have a look at it. I was also looking at another truck but it was a 1/2 ton and I really wanted a 3/4 ton. It just seemed like this was a no brainer to me, it was everthing I needed in a TV, so I went to look at it, then brought it home the same day. My TT is 7500lbs. ready to go. The most I'll ever load it will probably be no more than 8000lbs. The tow rating for this truck is 10,100 lbs, so you can see I have plenty of room to spare. It is a 6.0 gas engine, and yes I would have loved to have a diesel but just can't justify the extra cost, besides I have no problem towing my camper at all, it is a good fit. Just take your time and find the vehicle. FYI when searching for 3/4 ton trucks online, you won't find very many in your area. There was only about 8 in mine.

RE: What to do with obnoxious neighbors?

We were seasonal for a few years and kept the noise down and tried hard to treat those around us as we would like to be treated. There were some on our street that thought that being seasonal gave them a free pass to be loud and obnoxoius, the park owners typically looked the other way, Needless to say we are not seasonal anymore and love traveling around and seeing new things. We tend to stay away from private parks just because of your story and our experience. Now, if we could just get someone to teach a class on campground manners to younsters we would be happy.,,,,,,,,,,,but that's a story for another day. Hmmm, we go to nothing but private parks and have never had any kind of problems. But I've heard a lot of stories about State and COE Cgs. Ohh wait a minute, there was a problem quite a while ago with some campers being loud and obnoxious. Sheriff came and gave them a warning. They kept it up after they left, and the next thing you know sheriff was back and they were packing and escorted out. I think we'll stick to private campgrounds. I have run into people who say they don't like private CGs because of to many rules.

RE: Why trade?

Well we have had a 2001 Keystone Camplite Popup, that we traded a little over a year later, for a 2003 Forest River Wildwood LE fiver, cause wife wanted her own bathroom. It turned out to be a POC. We traded that a year later for 2004 Dutchmen Sport 26L TT. So here is my take on this. We still have our Dutchmen TT for which we are on our fifth year now. At some point I feel like we gotta stop with trading in, main reason being that newer trailers keep going up in price year after year, along with interest rates. Also most RV Manufacturers quality has gone down the toilet, so most don't care about anything after they sell them, dealers included. Why support this kind of garbage? My Dutchmen was only in for service one time after we bought it, and that was to replace the awning that had a pin hole in it. So I pretty much know all of its quirks, so when something needs fixing I do it myself. We are very happy with it so I can honestly say that were keeping it for as long as we can. My truck that I just bought is five yrears old, but that is all I can afford. I make pretty good money, but with the way prices of everything has gone up, I sometimes feel like we just can't get ahead. So now I'm going to just appreciate and be thankful for what I have. Hey Mousefart, we do KOAs all the time, cause of the swimming pools. Got to keep Momma happy.

Battery negative cable gauge

Bought a 6 gauge cable, I'm beginning to think I'm wrong. Anybody have an idea what the correct size is. MY TT is in storage so I can't go check. Putting in a cut off switch, 6 gauge seems to large, but now I'm not sure.

RE: Removing Wallpaper Border Glue-HELP

javaseuf Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle feathers, but I get on here this morning and right away there are rude comments to people in some of the other forums. If somebody posted in more than one thread which I have seen many times, The moderators will take care of it. I just move on to another topic.

RE: trailer towing with Hemi

Looks like Mike and myself had and have identical TVs except the years were different, but still same truck. Anyways in my previous post, what I was saying is that the everybody thinks the tow rating for a Dodge 1500 Hemi is 8500lbs, but it isn't with 20 inch rims. Thats not apples to apples, you need 17 inch rims to get that higher tow rating. Check the Owners Manual, it should tell you that in there, or call Dodge and ask them. From what I was told is that they gave the Ram a 3.92 axle to compensate for the larger rims for towing, hence the 7700lbs or what ever is lower tow rating. The dealer I talked to also said that he could get me 17 inch rims after I told him there was another truck I was looking at, and that it was really more of a tow vehicle than that Ram.

RE: Awning Cleaning - Are you sure you use Tilex?

Any bathroom cleaner from the dollar store works just as well. Wife and I cleaned ours a few weeks ago, just spray it on, then scrub with a brush and rinse. We were so impressed we went back and bought two more cans. And ours looked pretty bad before.
